How We Test
Every app we cover is tested by a real person on a real device before we publish a word. We don't rank products from spec sheets — we sign up, pay for the tier most readers will buy, and use the app the way you would: long conversations, voice calls, photo and video requests, and the inevitable run-in with the paywall.
We earn a commission when you sign up through our links, which is exactly why we keep the testing honest. A glowing review of a bad app costs us your trust, and trust is the only thing that keeps an affiliate site alive.
1. We pay and sign up like a real user
No vendor accounts, no comped subscriptions. We create a normal account, buy the tier most readers choose, and note every friction point from sign-up to first reply — including how aggressive the upsells are.
2. We test the features that actually matter
Chat quality and memory, voice-call latency, photo and video generation, NSFW handling, response speed, and how well the character stays in persona over a long session. We score each on a consistent rubric so reviews are comparable.
3. We use each app for at least two weeks
First impressions lie. We use an app daily for 14+ days so we can judge whether the memory degrades, whether the novelty wears off, and whether the subscription is worth renewing — not just whether the demo looks good.
4. We document the cons, with evidence
Every review lists concrete downsides we hit ourselves: dropped calls, repetitive replies, hidden costs, region locks. If we can't reproduce a complaint, we say that too.
5. We re-test and update
These apps ship fast. We revisit our top picks as features change and stamp each article with an updated date so you know how fresh the verdict is.
